Tamiya-ryu Iaijutsu does not aim to win by attacking, but rather by defending oneself from sudden attacks without delay. Teachers carry real swords! Rent an imitation sword of the same weight and hone your skills. 

The teacher cuts the air with a swish! “I can do that too!” the student thinks. They slash the sword vigorously, but... no sound. The student is carefully instructed to draw a circle with the blade. They swing again… but still no sound. “More than meets the eye…” murmurs the student. The teacher laughs. The teacher is kind.
